Half a million dollars. That’s how much the Ford is selling the new Ford GT for. Just let that number sink in for a while. That’s two Lamborghini Aventadors or three Ferrari 488 GTBs. Hell, that’s fifteen Chevrolet Camaros or a whopping twenty Toyota GT-86 examples. Quite a lot in other words.
It’s no secret that Ford’s GT didn’t receive a lot of positive feedback initially. People have criticized it for being too sterile, too docile… too ordinary even. Now though, someone has dared to do a proper review of it, and actually introduce us, the viewers, with the car. Instead of just skidding about on a track, Doug DeMuro, a Youtuber with over a dozen unique cars in his collection, decided to make a video on why, or should we say if, the Ford GT is worth half a million dollars.
Want the stats? Here they are in a nutshell. Twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 656 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. The sprint to 60 mph takes just 3.2 seconds and flat out, you’ll be doing well in excess of 210 miles per hour (216 to be exact).
The engine is actually a carryover from the F-150 Raptor, but Ford has turned everything up to 11 for the GT. The dual-clutch transmission is smooth and responsive, but a bit clunky at low revs. It feels, for lack of a better expression, like a race car.
It was always going to be fast though, we all kind of knew that. No, what most of us have an issue with is the noise. A V6 will never sound as good as a large V8 or a V12 now will it? Well, Ford obviously plans to prove us otherwise. If Doug’s review is anything to go by, the new Ford GT sounds glorious in person.
Just 1000 examples will be built, and all of them have been sold out, mostly thanks to Ford’s selective customer experience. You can’t just go out and buy a Ford GT. Ford had to select you from a shortlist of several thousand potential customers. Yes, it’s that exclusive. Have a look at the video below and see what Doug thinks of it.
